Privacy Policy — Devotion
Last updated: 6 September 2026
Devotion (“the app”, “we”) is a personal habit & challenge tracker. This policy
explains what data the app handles, where it is stored, and your choices. Devotion is
built to be privacy-first: there are no ads, no analytics, no tracking, and
your data is never sold or shared for marketing.
Who we are
Devotion is an independent app developed by Freya Schwettmann. For any privacy question
or request, contact: freya.schwettmann@icloud.com.
How you sign in
Devotion uses your device’s Apple iCloud account. We do not ask for or
collect an email address or password — sign-in is handled entirely by Apple. To sync your
data and to power the optional Friends feature, the app uses the anonymous iCloud user
identifier that Apple provides; we cannot see your Apple ID email from it.
What data the app handles
- Your challenges & progress — the challenges, tasks, daily
check-offs, and streaks you create. Stored in your own private iCloud so it syncs
across your devices.
- Profile — a display name, a username, and (optionally) a profile
photo that you choose. These are visible to friends you add.
- Shared activity (only if you use Friends) — if you add friends or
join a group challenge (“pod”), a summary of your day (your streak, today’s task names,
and check-in times) is shared with those friends so they can cheer you on.
- Private content that is never shared — your written reflections and
progress photos stay in your private iCloud only. They are never shared with friends,
and the developer never sees them.
- Crash & diagnostic data — if the app crashes, technical details
(device model, iOS version, and the error) are sent to help fix the bug. This does not
include your name, photos, or personal content.
- Notifications — the app schedules reminders on your device and, if
you use Friends, sends notifications for friend requests, group invites, and reactions.
Where your data is stored
- Apple iCloud (CloudKit). The developer does not run its own servers.
Your challenges, progress, reflections, and photos live in your private iCloud.
Your shareable profile and activity summary (see above) live in Apple’s shared CloudKit
database so friends you add can see them. This is governed by
Apple’s Privacy Policy.
- Sentry (crash reporting). Crash and diagnostic reports are processed
by Sentry, stored in the European Union. See
Sentry’s Privacy Policy.
Who your data is shared with
Only the friends you explicitly add can see your profile and daily activity summary.
Beyond that, your data is not shared with anyone, not sold, and not used
for advertising. The only third parties involved are Apple (iCloud, App Store) and Sentry
(crash reporting), each solely to make the app work.
Your choices & rights
- Edit or remove your info — change your name, username, or photo in
the app at any time.
- Delete your data — deleting the app removes its data from your device.
To also remove your shared profile from iCloud, or for any access/deletion request under
the GDPR or similar laws, email
freya.schwettmann@icloud.com and we
will action it.
- Notifications — you can turn these off any time in iOS Settings.
Data retention
Your data is kept as long as you use the app. When you delete your data (as above), it is
removed. Crash reports are retained by Sentry for a limited period for debugging and then
automatically deleted.
Children
Devotion is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from
them.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The “Last updated” date above will change,
and significant updates will be reflected here.
